The Mysterious Ice Age (Móra Ferenc Museum)

2025. 21 June 2025 – 2026. 10 January 2026
The fascinating world of the Ice Age unfolds before visitors in this unique exhibition, which not only presents the mysterious creatures of the past, but also encourages reflection on our present. At the exhibition entitled “The Mysterious Ice Age,” visitors can get up close and personal with the unique animal species that have survived the cold of the Ice Age: original skeletons and skulls tell the story of the giants of a bygone era. Here stands the giant deer with its enormous antlers, the skeletons of the wolf and the cave bear, as well as the skulls of the saber-toothed tiger and the aurochs.
However, the exhibition goes beyond traditional contemplation: an interactive activity area helps visitors not only understand the Ice Age, but also experience it. Various playful tasks, puzzles, and coloring books await young and old alike, and visitors can even find out how big they would be compared to the animals of that era. This space is a place where learning and play meet, where science becomes tangible.
One of the most unique parts of the exhibition is a room where it is extremely cold – here, visitors can experience for themselves what the climate of the Ice Age must have been like. A projector shows impressive footage of melting glaciers, and visitors can even touch real ice if they wish. This experience is both spectacular and thought-provoking, especially when you enter the next room and are confronted with the shocking facts about climate change. This part of the exhibition not only informs but also warns: nature is fragile, and the balance that once defined an entire era is now once again under threat.
The organizers have not forgotten about the popular Ice Age tales either: in a separate space, visitors can explore the reality behind these stories. What were the mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and sloths known from movies really like?
In addition, visitors to the exhibition can see various skeletal reconstructions: mammoths, giant sloths, cave bears and lions, woolly rhinoceroses, and saber-toothed tigers. There are also moving, sound-producing animals on display: a baby mammoth, a cave bear, and a cave lion.
The exhibition entitled The Mysterious Ice Age offers a complex experience that addresses both the past and the present. Visitors can not only learn about creatures from the distant past, but also confront one of the most important challenges of our time: climate change.
