2018. on 27 October opened the archaeological sight collection of the Ferenc Móra Museum. In the new exhibition space, visitors will be able to see a total of 3,000 objects previously stored in a warehouse. Among the findings, we can find a 1,500-year-old goose egg, a mummified hand and foot, as well as the famous European copper treasure from Szilléri.
The Móra Ferenc Museum in Szeged has expanded with a new exhibition space: an archaeological sight collection has been created in the public collection. In sight collection, we present a total of 3,000 archeological objects that have been stored until now, embracing approximately 8,000 years.
For the first time, the so-called antiquities materials from the time of museum directors János Reizner, István Tömörkény and Ferenc Móra are being presented. We also exhibit, for example, the European-famous Szilléri copper treasure, a mummified hand and foot, Roman candlesticks and a 1,300-year-old goose egg.
In addition, in the sight collection you can find various work tools, objects used in everyday life, weapons, as well as special, cult protective finds. It also reveals what the fire dog was used for, what human-sized hombars and Gepid era shields looked like, and what 8,000-year-old fat-tailed idols or bone skates looked like.
The creation of the archeological sight collection was realized with the support of the "Tender for the professional development of museum institutions - Ágoston Kubinyi Program" and the City of Szeged County.
