Lukács Chen – The School Founder of Chinese Christian Painting (Móra Ferenc Museum)
Chinese painter Chen Yuan-du has incorporated Christian motifs into his works, interspersed with classical Chinese depictions, creating a completely new and unique school of painting. After his baptism, he became known as Luke Chen: his depictions of classical biblical themes were a worldwide innovation.
Ten works by Lukács Chen can be seen at the exhibition in the Ferenc Móra Museum. A special feature of the exhibition is that it includes paintings that were previously thought to be lost and only reproductions published in the press of the time were included in art databases. The works of art are part of the collection of the Franciscan Order of Our Lady of Hungary, which is kept in the Franciscan Monastery and House in Szeged.
The exhibition is be open from 27 January 2024.
