The Móra Ferenc Museum and the Castle Museum reopen from 27 January
After the winter break, from 27 January 2024, the Ferenc Móra Museum and the Castle Museum will be open to the public again every day between 10-18 hours. Visits to the Castle Museum must be announced at the main cash desk of the Móra Ferenc Museum.
We will again be hosting Chinese-themed exhibitions from 27 January. The Ancient China exhibition closed its doors on 7 January, but one part of the exhibition, the clay soldiers, will remain in Szeged. Soldier statues of the same material and size as the originals will be on display at the Móra Ferenc Museum until spring, giving those who were unable to visit the exhibition last year the opportunity to see the special objects.
But the clay soldiers will not be the only Chinese-themed objects in the Móra Museum. From 27 January, visitors will also be able to see a new exhibition entitled „Lukács Chen – The School Founder of Chinese Christian Painting”. Chinese painter Chen Yuan-du has incorporated Christian motifs into his works, interspersed with classical Chinese depictions, creating a completely new and unique school of painting. After his baptism, he became known as Luke Chen: his depictions of classical biblical themes were a worldwide innovation.
Ten works by Lukács Chen can be seen at the exhibition in the Ferenc Móra Museum. A special feature of the exhibition is that it includes paintings that were previously thought to be lost and only reproductions published in the press of the time were included in art databases. The works of art are part of the collection of the Franciscan Order of Our Lady of Hungary, which is kept in the Franciscan Monastery and House in Szeged.
