Travel to the past! Permanent historical exhibition of Szeged (Castle Museum)
The Castle's permanent exhibition presents several important historical events from Szeged's past: visitors can learn about the history of the former Szeged Castle, the world of witch trials and outlaws, and the destruction of the Great Flood.
Old Szeged and its forgotten castle
As an introduction, the visitor can watch a short film about the history of the castle and the city, after which our guests can dive into more information with the help of a timeline table. The classic paintings on the walls contain brief information about the history of the castle and the town that surrounds it. Objects at the end of the ship also represent this story, representing each age, in a layer-like arrangement.
The witches on the scales
With the help of an installation, visitors can pass the witch test: it turns out whether or not they would have been labeled a witch hundreds of years ago. In addition, they can receive interesting information about the witch trials in Szeged, the terms used in the vernacular and the ethnographic aspects of witchcraft.
"My chum is a thousand outlaws..."
Visitors can learn about Sándor Rózsa's life, actions, judgment, and the continuation of his legend. The tableau on the wall provides additional information about the ethnographic traditions of the outlaw world.
Ráday's penitentiary
A prison installation conveys the atmosphere of the prison in Szeged Castle. The outer wall of the prison is made up of small cabinets, when opened, you can see the pictures of the outlaws imprisoned here, but you can also see surprising objects here.
"Broke dike with a roar and thunder"
This unit presents the events of the flood that greatly determined the life of the city. Shows water penetration, charity initiatives and the reconstructions. The exhibition closes with a special wall in which you can see the map of Szeged before and after the flood in front of a bubbling water column.
From castle you can walk out to the castle yard towards the Tisza. Here, visitors can see the completely renovated stone storehouse, which will also be expanded to the part facing the museum during the renovation. More interesting archaeological objects and stone installations can be discovered here.
