The Hungarian public had to wait until 1959 to see a solo exhibition of Csáky in Budapest and Szeged. The artist visited Hungary that year, and it was then that his hometown (Szeged) purchased the Chanteuse sculpture from him. Although Csáky did not intend the work for a public space, it was nevertheless placed there: the people of Szeged could see it day after day on Honvéd Square, and later on Klauzál Square, right up until 1982. It was then placed atop the newly constructed fountain at the Anna Spring. To this day, many people still fill their bottles with the spring’s warm, healing waters, and the iconic figure of the Chanteuse has become inextricably linked with the Anna Fountain.
