Cher ami Picasso – Friend and Patron
Frédéric Joliot-Curie
(1900–1958) was a chemist and physicist who received the Nobel Prize in 1935. Driven by their anti-nationalist views, both Joliot-Curie and Picasso joined the French Communist Party. Joliot-Curie was also president of the World Council of Peace, and at his request, Picasso created the poster for the World of Peace Conference, decorated with a dove – not once but on several occasions. After Joliot Curie died, a postcard was made as a tribute, featuring a portrait of the scientist drawn by Picasso.
